From Sempione Park to the Navigli, the city’s streets and parks are gearing up for a busy July of community-friendly fitness challenges and wellness events.

Milan’s runners and walkers have plenty to lace up for this July, with a series of community fitness events transforming parks and piazzas into scenes of collective movement. The biggest draw: the iconic Stramilano Summer Edition returns on Sunday, July 14, alongside new charity walks and outdoor group workout sessions designed for all ages and experience levels.
The city’s booming interest in group fitness is no accident. After years of pandemic-era solo exercise, Milanesi are embracing the social side of movement again—a trend underscored by packed running trails in Parco Sempione and pelotons of cyclists along the Navigli bend. Organisers say the surge of registrations this summer reflects a pent-up hunger for connection and a renewed local focus on wellbeing. Whether training for a timed race or strolling with friends for a good cause, residents are finding fresh motivation in moving together, not alone.
The headline event, Stramilano Summer Edition, brings thousands to the city’s historic heart, with both a 10km timed run and a more relaxed 5km fun run. The route starts at Piazza Castello, loops through Parco Sempione, and doubles back along Via Dante—a favourite for seasoned runners and families alike. Registration for adults is €18, which includes a performance shirt and post-run refreshment; children under 14 can join for €10. Organisers from CUS Milano anticipate over 8,000 participants, based on recent ticket sales trends.
Elsewhere, the Navigli District will host its annual Camminata per la Ricerca walkathon on Saturday, July 20. The charity event covers a scenic 7km circuit starting at Darsena, winding along Alzaia Naviglio Grande and back, raising funds for Fondazione Umberto Veronesi’s cancer research. Last year’s edition attracted 2,100 participants and raised over €64,000. Entry donations start at €15, with family discounts available; early bird tickets are already 70% claimed on the official Eventbrite listing.
Fitness group Milano Running Friends is also promoting weekday morning runs at Parco Nord (Via Clerici entrance), free for first-timers, and women’s self-defense fitness classes in Porta Romana, supported by the municipal wellness initiative, Milano in Movimento.
According to the city’s Assessorato al Benessere, participation in organized walks and runs surged 18% from 2023 to 2025, with over 29,000 Milan residents officially registered in community fitness events last year. Both Parco Sempione and Parco Nord reported a 25% uptick in weekend park attendance during major race weekends. Organisers say the accessibility of these events—free or low-fee registrations, central locations near metro stops like Cairoli and Porta Genova, and all-abilities welcome policies—are key to their growth.
With July shaping up to be one of the busiest months for group movement in recent memory, organisers advise advance sign-ups to secure a spot—especially for larger events like Stramilano and Camminata per la Ricerca. For casual athletes and newcomers, Milan in Movimento offers weekly park meetups and online resources to help residents find like-minded groups or set personal goals. And with temperatures rising, health officials also remind participants to hydrate, wear light fabrics, and start early if possible to avoid midday heat.
The city’s rambunctious social exercise scene shows no sign of slowing. For Milanese looking to connect with neighbours and boost wellbeing, July’s local calendar offers a route—and a community—for every pace and ambition.
