From Parco Sempione circuits to Navigli group walks, the city’s calendar overflows with ways to get active, social and civic-minded this July.

The Milanese community is preparing for a busy month of outdoor exercise and collective energy, with more than a dozen fun runs, charity walks and fitness events slated across central districts and local parks throughout July and August.
Interest in communal fitness has been on the rise in Milan over the past year, local organisers report, as residents seek accessible, sociable activities in the city’s open green spaces. The strong Mediterranean lifestyle – with its emphasis on daily activity and shared spritzes after work – is blending seamlessly with a new focus on health, connection and outdoor exercise.
Parco Sempione remains the heart of Milan’s running scene and will host the annual "Milan Summer Charity Run" on 14 July, with start-and-finish lines at the Arco della Pace gates. The event features 5km and 10km routes, as well as a shorter 2km walk for families and those with limited mobility. All registration fees – €19 for adults, €9 for under-16s – support Croce Rossa Milano’s local health initiatives.
Over in the south-west, the Navigli Fitness Festival kicks off on 27 July, gathering cyclists, runners and walkers along the Alzaia Naviglio Grande. Organised by FITMI Milano, this all-day event blends timed runs, group yoga (free on the Darsena docks at 10am) and a newly introduced 6km walk benefitting the Banco Alimentare food bank. To cut down on crowding, start times are staggered and a mobile hydration station will set up at Vicolo dei Lavandai for all participants.
According to municipal data, participation in public fitness events in Milan jumped by nearly 30% between 2023 and 2025. The 2025 Parco Sempione charity run drew a record 3,200 runners; organisers expect this year’s total to top 3,500. Further afield, smaller neighbourhood events – like the Brera Morning Jog or the Corvetto Cammina evening walking group – continue to grow. Most events require advance registration via online portals like myMilanofitness.it or in person at designated sports shops including Cisalfa Sport (Via Cusani, 10) and Decathlon (Viale Certosa, 21).
Costs range from free for community yoga and guided walks, to €20–€25 for competitive run entries, with many charities offering reduced-price entries for students and pensioners. Several initiatives, including the Navigli festival, offer free participation in exchange for volunteer hours or food bank donations. Medical certification is required for timed runs, consistent with regional sporting regulations, but not for untimed or family-oriented walks.
Most main events encourage participants to gather post-exercise for an aperitivo: barmen at Le Biciclette and Bar Luce have both confirmed extended hours on event days. Milan’s next major run, "Sotto le Stelle di Agosto" (Under the August Stars), opens 4 August at Piazza San Fedele, with nighttime 8km and 12km routes looping the Montanelli Gardens. Registration closes five days prior. For anyone new to group exercise or curious about volunteering, your local community sports centre or the official event websites are the best starting points. Lace up, get involved and explore Milan’s summer from a new perspective.
