Dog-Friendly Parks Milan: Exercise & Social Hubs
Discover Milan's best dog-friendly parks combining pet walks with group fitness. Join morning circuits at Parco Sempione and Parco Lambro where residents blend exercise with neighbourhood connections.
How we reported this
Parco Sempione now hosts morning circuits where owners run with their dogs along the main paths before stopping for group stretches near the Castello Sforzesco entrance.
The trend has gained momentum this summer because rising temperatures push people outdoors and the city’s public healthcare network promotes preventive movement to ease pressure on clinics. Many residents already cycle the Navigli routes in the evenings, so extending those habits into structured park sessions fits the existing Mediterranean pattern of combining light exercise with social time.
Two parks leading the shift
Parco Sempione draws the largest crowds on weekdays, with sessions starting at 7:30 a.m. along Viale Cervantes. A second hub operates at Parco Lambro on the eastern edge, where the wide meadow near Via Feltre allows dogs off-lead during designated hours while trainers lead short boot-camp intervals for owners. Both locations opened extended dog zones in spring 2025 after the city updated its park bylaws to permit controlled group fitness alongside pet access.
Local organisation Cani in Movimento coordinates the timetables and supplies water stations and waste bags at each site. Participants register through the group’s website or at the small kiosk near the Sempione bandstand, paying a flat 12-euro monthly fee that covers insurance and occasional equipment such as resistance bands.
Numbers behind the activity
City park records show 4,200 residents signed up for the combined dog-and-fitness programmes between March and June this year, up from 2,900 in the same period of 2024. Average session attendance sits at 85 people on weekday mornings, with Saturday events reaching 140. The increase aligns with a broader 35 percent rise in outdoor wellness participation tracked by the municipal health department since the start of 2025.
Those who want to try the sessions can arrive at either park before 8 a.m. on any weekday, bring a lead and waste bags, and join the first 30-minute loop. Newcomers receive a quick orientation from the volunteer marshal on site, after which they can decide whether the monthly pass suits their routine.
