Best Day Trips from Milan
Milan's northern Italian location and excellent rail connections make it one of Europe's best bases for day trips. The Italian Lakes — Como, Maggiore, Lugano, and Garda — are all accessible within 90 minutes, offering some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe amid bellagio villages, villa gardens, and lake ferry cruises. Turin, Italy's first capital and home of the Shroud of Turin, the Fiat Lingotto building, and some of Italy's finest chocolate and aperitivo culture, is just 45 minutes by high-speed train. The medieval city of Bergamo's Alta Città — a perfectly preserved Venetian hilltop city — is 45 minutes east and one of Lombardy's most underrated day trips.
