From the Navigli canals to Sempione Park, Milan’s upcoming group exercise events promise community spirit and wellness for all ages.

Hundreds of Milanesi are lacing up for a series of summer fun runs, charity walks, and community fitness events set to take over the city streets and green spaces in July and August. Registration is now open for events including the popular Stramilano Training Run on July 14th, the Navigli Night Charity Walk on July 20th, and the Zona 6 Family Bike Day on August 3rd.
The buzz around these group activities is especially strong this year. June’s record high temperatures drove many outdoors only at dawn or dusk, fuelling demand for community fitness events that provide both structure and camaraderie. With Milan’s fast pace and compact apartments, locals are seizing the chance to get moving together in neighbourhood spaces where fresh air and social energy come standard.
The Stramilano Training Run will start from the historic Piazza Castello at 8:30am, looping through Sempione Park and along Corso Sempione. Organisers from Atletica Stramilano expect over 500 participants, many of whom are prepping for September’s famed Stramilano Half Marathon. Meanwhile, the Navigli Night Charity Walk uses the city’s picturesque canal system as its course. Set for July 20th, it starts and finishes at Darsena, the heart of the Navigli district, winding past Ripa di Porta Ticinese and Via Gola. Proceeds from registration fees go directly to Milan’s Fondazione Arché, which supports families in need.
Zona 6’s local council is also collaborating with Fiab Milano Ciclobby to offer a Family Bike Day on August 3rd, a 20km group ride starting from via Savona and heading west towards Parco delle Cave. Free basic safety checks for children’s bikes will be available at the start point as part of the ‘Bicicletta Sicura’ programme. Last year’s Family Bike Day drew 180 riders, and organisers hope to top 250 this year.
According to the Comune di Milano’s Sport e Salute department, 42% of residents participated in some organised outdoor fitness activity in 2025, a post-pandemic record. Many of these events keep entry costs low: the Navigli Night Walk asks for a €10 donation, while Stramilano Training Run tickets are €7. Discounts for families and students are widely available. Events are designed with all abilities in mind—most feature separate start times or routes for serious runners, casual walkers, and those pushing strollers.
Online sign-ups are the norm (stramilano.it, fiabmilano.it), and several neighbourhood pharmacies and municipal libraries also accept in-person registrations. Organisers encourage early sign-up to avoid day-of bottlenecks, especially given last summer’s sold-out events.
With the mercury set to rise again in July, Milan’s fitness schedule offers accessible, safe ways to stay active and hydrated. Participants are advised to bring a water bottle, lightweight cap, and SPF. For those with medical conditions, a visit to their local ATS Milano health centre before starting new activities is recommended. A full calendar and resources for all ages are available via the Comune di Milano’s Sport e Salute portal.
