Parco Sempione recorded 1,450 daily users at its free fitness stations during the first week of July 2026, according to Comune di Milano park attendance logs.

Residents have shifted toward these no-cost circuits as summer temperatures climb and public healthcare programs continue to promote movement in open air rather than paid club settings. The pattern aligns with Milan’s established Mediterranean routine of early activity followed by social time later in the day.

Two sites stand out for equipment variety and accessibility. The main circuit sits on the eastern edge of Parco Sempione near Viale Cervantes, where rows of pull-up bars, dip stations, and leg-press machines were added during a 2023 upgrade. Runners combine the strength area with laps around the park’s central lake. Further south, the Navigli district hosts a linear course along the Naviglio Grande towpath between Via Valenza and Piazza XXIV Maggio, with resistance bands anchored to fixed posts and balance beams spaced at 400-metre intervals.

Equipment and hours at each spot

Both locations open at dawn and stay available until 10 p.m. without gates or staff. The Sempione station includes eight apparatus types plus shaded benches; the Navigli route adds water fountains every kilometre and connects directly to cycle paths used by commuters. City maintenance crews inspect the gear on the first Monday of each month, with the next check scheduled for 3 August.

Comune di Milano data from the 2025 annual parks report showed a 34 percent rise in registered fitness app check-ins at these two sites compared with 2023 figures. Average session length reached 42 minutes, and 68 percent of users combined the circuits with running or cycling segments.

How to start a session

Begin at either entrance with a five-minute walk or jog to raise body temperature. Rotate through three sets of body-weight moves at each station, then finish with stretches on the adjacent grass. Bring a water bottle and towel; no other gear is required. Those new to the equipment can follow the simple diagrams posted on metal plaques at every stop. For personalised guidance on form or progression, residents are advised to consult a local medical professional or certified trainer through the city’s public wellness network.
